Description: Maui Ocean Center’s complimentary Sea Talk Series continues with a fascinating presentation on dolphins by Dr. Daniela Maldini. Dr. Maldini will talk about dolphin societies and some of the major threats to dolphins today. She will highlight her life as a dolphin researcher and her experiences in the field including the insights that brought her to her current understanding of dolphin social structure. The public is invited to a complimentary Sea Talk Series at Maui Ocean Center on Wednesday, January 30 at 6:00 pm. The evening’s Sea Talk will be presented by researcher Dr. Daniela Maldini. Dr. Maldini’s presentation will be on dolphins, focusing on dolphin societies and some of the major threats to dolphins today. She will highlight her life as a dolphin researcher and her experiences in the field including the insights that brought her to her current understanding of dolphin social structure.

About the Speaker
Daniela Maldini completed her Ph.D. in Zoology at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 2003. She also has an M.S. in Marine Sciences from San Jose State University (Moss Landing Marine Labs) and a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Pavia, Italy. She completed a post-doctorate in Conservation Biology at the Center for International Educational Exchange, Marine Research Station Bonaire, Netherland Antilles. Maldini has been involved in a variety of ecological studies focusing on whales, dolphins, sea otters, and pinnipeds from the Mediterranean, to Mexico, to Alaska and the Russian Far East. She has been studying marine mammals in the California coastal ecosystem since 1990. She currently lives in Hawaii and maintains close ties with California through the California Coastal Dolphin Project.
