Hawaiiâs Unique Oceans Art Contest
Daily; April 1 â May 31, 2013
Students in grades K-5 are invited to enter Maui Ocean Centerâs art contest, held in honor of World Oceans Day on June 8th. The goal of the contest is to promote ocean awareness among Mauiâs students. There will be three categories; grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. The top three drawings that best represent the theme âHawaiiâs Unique Oceansâ will win an Annual Journey Pass to the Aquarium. Click here for contest rules and details on how to enter.
True or Fool Quiz
Daily; April 1-5, 2013
Maui Ocean Center offers a fun âtrue or falseâ quiz to celebrate April Foolsâ Day! Take the quiz and see if you know whatâs true and whatâs fool (false) about Hawaiiâs incredible marine life. The True or Fool Quiz can be completed at the Aquarium or at home. Download your quiz online or ask for one at the Aquariumâs front gate (available March 31).
Harbor Plaza Whale Watching
Mondays 9am-1pm; April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Volunteers from the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary will be at the Aquariumâs Harbor Plaza throughout whale season. Enjoy help with spotting whales and interpreting their fantastic acrobatic feats and other surface behaviors from these expert volunteers. Overlooking Maâalaea Bay, the Harbor Plaza is the perfect place to watch for Humpbacks.
Fins and Flippers Tour

Learn fascinating shark and turtle facts on the interactive Fins and Flippers tour. Led by a knowledgeable Ocean Naturalist, the interactive Fins and Flippers tour includes a sneak peek behind-the-scenes at the Aquariumâs wet laboratory and the chance to observe a supervised feed at Hammerhead Harbor and Turtle Lagoon.
Childrenâs Story Time & Craft Hour
Saturdays 11:30am; April 6, 13, 20, 27
Children ages 3-12 are invited to an intriguing story time in the Hawaiians & the Sea Exhibit. Story time is hosted by an Ocean Naturalist and includes making a fun, marine-themed craft for keiki to take home.
Monk Seal Foundation Booth
Sundays 10am-2pm; April 14, 28
Learn about the endemic Hawaiian monk seal, one of the worldâs most critically endangered animals, at the Monk Seal Foundation educational info booth in the Aquariumâs Marine Mammal Discovery Center. MSF volunteers will share information about monk seals, the challenges they face, and how to help this endangered species. A fun childrenâs craft will also be provided.
Turtle-rrific Thursday

Enjoy up close and personal encounters with green sea turtles at Maui Ocean Centerâs Turtle Lagoon. Interact with the Aquariumâs curatorial team, the staff who care for the animals and exhibits, and learn fascinating facts about the biology, behavior and diet of green sea turtles.

Discover the fascinating story behind the green sea turtles at Maui Ocean Center. Join a special guest speaker at the Turtle Lagoon for casual turtle talks and an up close encounter with a Hawaiian green sea turtle. Along with interesting turtle facts, guests will learn about the Aquariumâs involvement in Sea Life Park Hawaiiâs green sea turtle educational loan program.
