Event: “I Love Marine Life!” Photo Contest
Description: Maui Ocean Center will hold its fifth annual “I Love Marine Life!” photo contest from June 1 to August 1. Capture the beauty of Hawaii’s marine life in a photo and enter Maui Ocean Center’s fourth annual “I Love Marine Life” photo contest for the chance to win a year membership to the Maui Ocean Center. This photo contest is open to everyone. The last day to submit an entry is by 5:00pm on Friday, August 1, 2014; winners will be announced the week of August 6 and be displayed at the Aquarium until Labor Day, September 1, 2014.

Event: Shark Tour Package Upgrade
Description: Separate shark fact from fiction! Learn about the different shark species at the Aquarium and discover what is myth and what is fact about these often misunderstood creatures. Tours are led by an Ocean Naturalist and include a sneak peek behind the scenes. The Shark Tour Package is offered exclusively during Shark-tacular in June and July, every Tuesday at 11:30am for $15 per person plus admission. Package includes a choice of lunch or snack option from the Reef Café. Space is limited and reservations are recommended at 808-270-7088.

Event: Fins and Flippers Tour
Description: Learn fascinating facts about sharks and green sea turtles on the exclusive Fins and Flippers tour.  Led by a knowledgeable Ocean Naturalist, this interactive tour includes a sneak peek behind-the-scenes at Maui Ocean Center and the chance to observe the feeding behavior of sharks and sea turtles at Hammerhead Harbor and Turtle Lagoon.  Tours are offered Fridays at 1:30pm for $10 per person plus Aquarium admission.  Space is limited and advance reservations are recommended by calling (808) 270-7088.

Event: Turtle-rrific Thursday
Description: Enjoy up close and personal encounters with green sea turtles!  Beginning at 2pm, guests are invited to join Maui Ocean Center’s aquarist team at Turtle Lagoon, where the team will measure, weigh and check the general health of the turtles.  The aquarists will also share fascinating facts about green sea turtle biology, behavior and diet.

Event: World Oceans Day
Description: On World Oceans Day, Maui Ocean Center will join individuals and organizations around the globe in celebrating the ocean that connects us all. Activities throughout the day include up close turtle encounters, children’s crafts, naturalist presentations, informational booths, and a sustainable seafood cooking demonstration.

Event: Sleep with the Sharks
Description: The Aquarium will hold public a sleepover for children ages 8-13 on Friday, June 13. Participants will spend an exciting evening at the Aquarium learning about the fascinating Hawaiian marine life with hands-on activities, games, crafts, and more. Sleepovers begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 8:00 a.m. the next day (Saturday). Sleepover fee is $60 plus tax per child and includes a pizza dinner, continental breakfast, snacks and a souvenir. Aquarium members receive a 15% discount. Reservations are required by calling 808-270-7075. The deadline to sign up for a sleepover is by 12 noon on the Thursday before. Private sleepovers are offered year-round; for more information on private sleepovers call 808-270-7085.

Event:  Monk Seal Foundation Info Booth
Description: Guests can learn about the endemic Hawaiian monk seal, one of the world’s most critically endangered animals, at the educational info booth provided by the Monk Seal Foundation (MSF).  MSF volunteers will share information about monk seals, the challenges they face, and how to help this endangered species.  This activity is offered from 10am to 2pm in the Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Discovery Center.  A fun children’s craft will also be provided.  For more info on the Monk Seal Foundation, visit www.monksealfoundation.org.

Event: Father’s Day Lunch Special
Description: On Sunday, June 15, treat Dad to a special lunch at the award-winning ocean view Seascape Ma`alaea Restaurant. The talented culinary team will be offering delicious specials prepared just for holiday.  Reservations are optional; call (808) 270-7068.  Admission is not required to dine in the restaurant; restaurant-only entry is located on the Ma‘alaea Harbor Shops side of the Aquarium.

Event: Hawai‘i’s Unique Oceans Art Contest
Description: The Aquarium’s annual Art contest, held in honor of World Oceans Day, encourages ocean appreciation and awareness in Maui County children grades K-5. The theme of the contest is Hawaii’s Unique Oceans and the grand prize for the top three entries that best represent this theme is an annual membership to Maui Ocean Center. Winning and finalist entries will be displayed at the Aquarium beginning the week of World Oceans Day, June 8th. The last day to submit entries is June 2, 2014.

Event: Talk Story & Hula Lessons with Kahu Dane Maxwell and ‘Ohana
Description: Visitors to Maui Ocean Center will have an extraordinary opportunity to hear from Maui Ocean Center’s Hawaiian Cultural Advisor Kahu Dane Maxwell and take in a hula lesson.  At 11:45am, following the Aquarium’s 11:00am dive presentation, Kahu Dane Maxwell and ‘Ohana (family) will conduct a talk story session and hula lesson at the Hawaiians and the Sea exhibit.  This activity is complimentary with aquarium admission and appropriate for all ages.  Schedule subject to change.

Event: Children’s Story Time & Craft Hour
Description: Children ages 3-12 are invited to an intriguing story time in the Hawaiians and the Sea Exhibit. Story time is hosted by an Ocean Naturalist and includes making a fun, marine-themed craft for keiki to take home.
