Dive into the intriguing world of sharks. Maui Ocean Center highlights sharks throughout June and July, sharing facts and dispelling myths about these amazing, yet often misunderstood animals. Learn spectacular shark facts and explore their vital role in the ocean ecosystem with daily naturalist presentations, hands-on children’s activities, and the interactive Shark Tour Package available exclusively during Shark-tacular! Most activities, excluding tour upgrades, are included with Aquarium admission.

“I Love Marine Life!” Photo Contest
Daily; June-August 1, 2013

Love marine life? Send your best snapshot of Hawaiian marine life to Maui Ocean Center’s “I Love Marine Life!” photo contest for the chance to win a prize! Contest is open to everyone. Entries must include a marine animal and be taken at Maui Ocean Center or in and around Maui’s waters. Deadline to enter is August 1, 2013. Contest rules and details will be posted soon.

Wet Naturalist Presentations
Thursdays and Sundays; 11:30am-1:30pm

Get a hands-on feel for Hawaii’s marine invertebrates during interactive wet naturalist presentations at the Aquarium’s Discovery Pool. Invertebrates are animals without backbones and include creatures such as urchins, sea stars and sea cucumbers. With the help of a wet naturalist inside the exhibit, guests will have the chance to touch and feel a few of these spineless creatures!

Children’s Story Time & Craft Hour
Saturdays 11:30am; June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Maui Ocean Center will offer a weekly story time and craft hour for children ages 3-12. Keiki will join an Ocean Naturalist in the Hawaiians & the Sea Exhibit for an intriguing story time followed with a fun, marine-themed craft.

Shark Tour Package
Tuesdays; June 4, 11, 18, 25; 11:30am

Separate shark fact from fiction! Learn about the different shark species at the Aquarium and discover what is myth and what is fact about these often misunderstood creatures. Tours are led by an Ocean Naturalist and include a sneak peek behind the scenes. The Shark Tour Package is offered exclusively during Shark-tacular in June and July, every Tuesday at 11:30am for $15 per person plus admission. Package includes a choice of lunch or snack option from the Reef Café. Space is limited and reservations are recommended at 808-270-7088.

Hangin’ with Honu

Green sea turtles are called ‘honu’ in Hawaiian. Enjoy the chance to hang out with a green sea turtle at Maui Ocean Center’s Turtle Lagoon during Hangin’ with Honu. A special guest speaker hosts this up close and personal encounter, and will share interesting turtle facts and information on Sea Life Park Hawaii’s green sea turtle educational loan program. This activity is included with Aquarium admission and appropriate for all ages.

Fins & Flippers Tour

Learn fascinating facts about sharks and sea turtles on the Fins & Flippers Tour. Led by a knowledgeable Ocean Naturalist, this interactive tour takes guests behind-the-scenes to the Aquarium’s wet laboratory and includes the chance to observe a supervised feed at Hammerhead Harbor and Turtle Lagoon. World Oceans Day
Saturday, June 8; 10am-2pm

Celebrate World Oceans Day by doing something great for the Big Blue! It’s as easy as picking up Maui Ocean Center’s Save Our Seas card and putting the helpful how-to’s into action. Designed to promote healthy reefs and oceans, the SOS card shares easy-to-follow ways you can help, no matter where you live. World Oceans Day will be celebrated throughout the day, with info booths by local eco-friendly non-profits, up close turtle encounters, children’s activities and more.

Monk Seal Foundation Booth
Sundays 10am-2pm; June 9, 30

Volunteers from the Monk Seal Foundation will host an informational booth on the endemic Hawaiian monk seal in Maui Ocean Center’s Marine Mammal Discovery Center on select Sundays in the month. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about Hawaiian monk seals, which are found only in Hawaii, along with the challenges they face and what can be done to help this critically endangered species.

Sleep with the Sharks
5:30pm-8am (next day); Fridays, June 14 and 28

Children ages 8-13 are invited to spend the night at the Aquarium! Sleepover participants will enjoy hands-on discovery lessons about Hawaii’s marine life, plus ocean-themed games, crafts, a movie, and more. Fee is $60 plus tax per child and includes a pizza dinner, continental breakfast, snacks and souvenir. Aquarium members receive 15% off. Sign up for sleepovers by 12 noon the Thursday before. Father’s Day Lunch Special

Happy Father’s Day! Treat Dad to lunch at the award-winning Seascape Ma‘alaea Restaurant. The restaurant’s talented culinary team will create a scrumptious lunch special just for Dad’s special day. Turtle-rrific Thursday
2pm; Thursday, June 20, 2013

Discover fascinating facts about the biology, behavior and diet of green sea turtles during Turtle-rrific Thursday. This exciting, interactive turtle encounter is hosted by Maui Ocean Center’s aquarist team at the Turtle Lagoon. Guests will have the opportunity to observe and participate as the team conducts a routine weighing and measuring of each juvenile turtle. This activity is included with Aquarium admission and appropriate for all ages.

Sea Talk Series
