Maui Ocean Center’s 15th Anniversary

Join Maui Ocean Center’s 15th Anniversary celebration on March 13th! The Hawaiian Aquarium will commemorate 15 wonderful years with an employee recognition ceremony followed by anniversary cake for guests while supplies last. The anniversary festivities also include up close encounters with green sea turtles in the Harbor Plaza, ocean-themed children’s crafts, presentations by Chef Diver, cooking demonstrations, and exciting shopping and dining specials throughout the day!

Green Day

On St. Patrick’s Day, Maui Ocean Center celebrates a different kind of green by putting the spotlight on green and sustainable living with special naturalist presentations, helpful Green Tip cards, a mini expo featuring local eco-friendly companies and an info booth sharing the Aquarium’s own green initiatives. Discover ways to help conserve our ocean, land and energy resources and enjoy up close turtle encounters, presentations by Chef Diver, a cooking demonstration and exciting children’s crafts throughout the day.

Harbor Plaza Whale Watching
Mondays 9am-1pm; March 4, 11, 18, 25

Volunteers from the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary will be at the Aquarium’s Harbor Plaza throughout whale season. Enjoy help with spotting whales and interpreting their fantastic acrobatic feats and other surface behaviors from these expert volunteers. Overlooking Ma‘alaea Bay, the Harbor Plaza is the perfect place to watch for Humpbacks.

Fins and Flippers Tour

Learn fascinating shark and turtle facts on the interactive Fins and Flippers tour. Led by a knowledgeable Ocean Naturalist, the interactive Fins and Flippers tour includes a sneak peek behind-the-scenes at the Aquarium’s wet laboratory and the chance to observe a supervised feed at Hammerhead Harbor and Turtle Lagoon.

Wet Naturalist Presentations
Tuesdays - Saturdays 11:30am-1:30pm

Get a hands-on feel for Hawaii’s marine invertebrates during interactive presentations at the Aquarium’s Discovery Pool. Invertebrates are animals without backbones and include creatures such as urchins, sea stars and sea cucumbers. With the help of a wet naturalist inside the exhibit, guests will have the chance to touch and feel a few of these spineless animals!

Children’s Story Time & Craft Hour
Saturdays 11:30am; March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Children ages 3-12 are invited to an intriguing story time in the Hawaiians & the Sea Exhibit. Story time is hosted by an Ocean Naturalist and includes making a fun, marine-themed craft for keiki to take home.

Monk Seal Foundation Booth
Sundays 10am-2pm; March 10, 31

Learn about the endemic Hawaiian monk seal, one of the world’s most critically endangered animals, at the Monk Seal Foundation educational info booth in the Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Discovery Center. MSF volunteers will share information about monk seals, the challenges they face, and how to help this endangered species. A fun children’s craft will also be provided.

Sleep with the Sharks
5:30pm-8:00am (next day); Monday, March 18 and Friday, March 22

Children ages 8-13 are invited to a fun and educational sleepover at the Aquarium! Participants will enjoy the opportunity to observe the nocturnal behaviors of sharks and other fascinating marine animals as they learn about Hawaiian marine life with exciting hands-on discovery lessons and ocean-themed games and crafts. Cost is $60 plus tax per child; Aquarium members receive 15% off. Fee includes snacks, a pizza dinner, continental breakfast and souvenir. Reservations are required by calling 808-270-7075.

Turtle-rrific Thursday

Enjoy up close and personal encounters with green sea turtles at Maui Ocean Center’s Turtle Lagoon. Interact with the Aquarium’s curatorial team, the staff who care for the animals and exhibits, and learn fascinating facts about the biology, behavior and diet of green sea turtles.

Hangin’ with Honu

Discover the fascinating story behind the green sea turtles at Maui Ocean Center. Join a special guest speaker at the Turtle Lagoon for casual turtle talks and an up close encounter with a Hawaiian green sea turtle. Along with interesting turtle facts, guests will learn about the Aquarium’s involvement in Sea Life Park Hawaii’s green sea turtle educational loan program.
