Event: Ocean ‘Ohana Month
Description: Over 25% of Hawaii’s marine life is endemic, found only in Hawaii and nowhere else in the world! In May, the Hawaiian Aquarium puts the spotlight on Hawaii’s unique endemic marine animals, from spineless invertebrates to the vibrantly-colored reef fish. Learn fascinating facts about these amazing endemics through intriguing daily presentations by knowledgeable Ocean Naturalists and enjoy exciting ocean crafts for keiki ages 3-12 on selected days throughout the month. Event: Kama‘aina & U.S. Military Appreciation Month
Description: Maui Ocean Center celebrates Kama‘aina and U.S. Military Appreciation Month in May! Throughout the month, the Aquarium says “Mahalo!” to all kama‘aina and U.S. military guests with 50% off general admission. Discounted rates are: $12.75 for adults; $7.25 for children ages 3-12; $11.25 for seniors ages 65+, with proof of valid Hawaii state or U.S. military ID at the time of purchase at MOC’s front gate. All prices are plus tax. This offer is not combinable with other discounts or promotions.

Event: “Hawaii’s Unique Oceans” Coloring Contest
Description: In honor of World Oceans Day, Maui Ocean Center is holding a coloring contest for grades K-5 to promote ocean awareness among Maui’s students. Entries must be original and follow the theme of “Hawaii’s Unique Oceans”. Winners will be announced the week of World Oceans Day on June 8. Winners will receive an Annual Journey Pass to Maui Ocean Center and have their entry displayed online and at the Aquarium. The deadline to enter is May 31, 2012. Event: Fins and Flippers Tour
Description: Learn fascinating facts about hammerhead sharks and green sea turtles on the exclusive Fins and Flippers tour. Led by a knowledgeable Ocean Naturalist, this interactive tour includes a sneak peek behind-the-scenes at Maui Ocean Center and the chance to observe the feeding behavior of sharks and sea turtles at Hammerhead Harbor and Turtle Lagoon. Tours are offered once a day at 11:30am on Tuesdays. Cost is $10 per person plus admission. Space is limited and advance reservations are recommended by calling (808) 270-7088.

Event: Boy’s Day Lunch
Description: Celebrate Boy’s Day in the award-winning Seascape Ma‘alaea Restaurant. Enjoy a special from the specially-created Boys’ Day menu, which will feature a hanapa‘a (fresh catch) dish among other delicious treats, and take in the spectacular ocean and aquarium views of the open-air restaurant. Event: Mother’s Day Lunch
Description: Happy Mother’s Day! Treat Mom to a scrumptious brunch buffet at MOC’s award-winning oceanview Seascape Ma‘alaea Restaurant on her special day. The restaurant’s talented culinary team has created an exquisite brunch menu just for Mother’s Day. Aquarium admission is not required to dine in the restaurant, enter through the restaurant’s exterior entrance located down the walkway from the Harbor Shops. Event: Beach Cleanup
Description: Participate in Maui Ocean Center’s next beach cleanup at Haycraft Park in Ma'alaea. Gloves, trash bags, grabbers and vests will be provided by Community Work Day Program. MOC will provide bottled water for all volunteers. Remember to bring your own sun protection! Meet at the tables at Haycraft Park. Event: Sleep with the Sharks
Description: Keiki in grades 3-8 are invited to sleep with the sharks at Maui Ocean Center! Experience the Aquarium after dark and learn about Hawaii’s unique marine life with hands-on discovery lessons, ocean-themed games and crafts, and a supervised turtle feed plus much more! Fee of $60 plus tax per child includes meals and souvenir. Aquarium members receive a 15% discount. Reservations are required; call (808) 270-7075. Program details available online.

Event: Children’s Ocean Crafts

Event: Children’s Story & Craft Hour
Description: Children ages 3-12 are invited to an intriguing story time followed by a fun ocean-themed craft! Event: Turtle-rrific Thursday
Description: Enjoy up close and personal encounters with green sea turtles at Maui Ocean Center’s Turtle Lagoon. Beginning at 2pm, guests are invited to join the Aquarium’s aquarist team at Turtle Lagoon, where the team will measure, weigh and check the general health of the turtles. The aquarists will also share fascinating facts about green sea turtle biology, behavior and diet. This activity is included with aquarium admission.

Event: Hangin’ with Honu
Description: Discover the fascinating story behind the green sea turtles at Maui Ocean Center. Join a special guest speaker at Turtle Lagoon from 11am-2pm for casual talks about turtles and an up close encounter with a Hawaiian green sea turtle. Along with interesting turtle facts, guests will learn about the Aquarium’s partnership with Sea Life Park Hawaii’s green sea turtle educational loan program and its benefits to the world’s green sea turtle population. This activity is included with aquarium admission.
