Event: Sea Turtle Tour Package Upgrade
Description: Guests who desire the ultimate Aquarium experience can upgrade to the Sea Turtle Tour Package, available on Tuesdays at 11:30am for $15, plus Aquarium admission. Offered exclusively during Turtle Mania in August and September, this behind-the-scenes tour includes a choice of lunch, snack or dessert from the Reef Café. Due to limited availability, tour fees apply to parents and guardians accompanying children registered on the tour. Reservations are highly recommended.

Event: Keiki Poetry and Joke Contest
Description: Do Hawaii’s bountiful ocean and marine life inspire you? Tell us about it with a joke or poem for the chance to win a year membership to the Hawaiian Aquarium! Maui Ocean Center’s third annual Poetry & Joke Contest, for students in grades K-12, will be held August through October 2014. Entries must express the uniqueness of Hawaii’s remarkable ocean and marine animals. Joke entries are open to grades K-5, poetry entries are open to grades 6-12. Entries are limited to one per student and must be the student’s original work. Winners and finalists will be announced on Maui Ocean Center’s website and displayed at the Aquarium. Prizes include one-day and year Journey Passes to Maui Ocean Center.

Event: Grandparent’s Day Lunch Special
Description: On Sunday, September 7, the Aquarium's award-winning oceanview Seascape Ma'alaea Restaurant will offer a scrumptious lunch special in honor of Grandparent’s Day. Admission is not required to dine in the restaurant; restaurant-only entry is located on the Ma'alaea Harbor Shops side of the Aquarium.

Event: Story Time Saturdays
Description: The Aquarium will offer a weekly story time and craft hour for children ages 3 through 12. This activity takes place in the Hawaiians & the Sea Exhibit at 11:30am on Saturday. Children will enjoy an intriguing story told by an Ocean Naturalist. Followed by a fun marine-themed craft for children.

Event: Fins & Flippers Tour Upgrade
Description: Fascinating facts about sharks and sea turtles are revealed on the interactive Fins & Flippers tour. Offered on Fridays; September 5, 12, 19, and 26 at 11:30am and 1:30pm, this exclusive tour is led by a knowledgeable Ocean Naturalist and includes a sneak peek behind-the-scenes at the Aquarium and the opportunity to observe a supervised feeding at Hammerhead Harbor and Turtle Lagoon. The tour is appropriate for all ages. Due to limited availability, fees are applicable to parents and guardians accompanying children on the tour. Cost is $10.00 per person plus aquarium admission. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling (808) 270-7088.

Event: Monk Seal Foundation Booth
Description: Guests can learn about the endemic Hawaiian monk seal, one of the world’s most critically endangered animals, at the educational info booth provided by the Monk Seal Foundation (MSF). MSF volunteers will share information about monk seals, the challenges they face, and how to help this endangered species. This activity is offered from 10am to 2pm in the Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Discovery Center. A fun children’s craft will also be provided. Event: NOAA Monk Seal Info Booth
Description: On Mondays, September 1 and 15, special guests from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will be at the Maui Ocean Center to share their knowledge on the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. Guests will learn about the biology and behavior of these beloved marine mammals and discover various efforts in progress to protect this endemic species.

Event: Turtle-rrific Thursday
Description: Guests can learn about Hawaii’s treasured green sea turtles in an up close and personal setting during Turtle-rrific Thursday on September 4 and 18. Beginning at 2pm, this interactive program is hosted by Maui Ocean Center’s curatorial team at the Turtle Lagoon. Guests will learn about the biology, behavior and diet of green sea turtles from the team that cares for the animals on a daily basis.

Event: Talk Story & Hula Lessons with Kahu Dane Maxwell and 'Ohana
Description: Visitors to Maui Ocean Center will have an extraordinary opportunity to hear from Maui Ocean Center's Hawaiian Cultural Advisor Kahu Dane Maxwell and take in a hula lesson. At 11:45am, following the Aquarium's 11:00am dive presentation, Kahu Dane Maxwell and 'Ohana (family) will conduct a talk story session and hula lesson at the Hawaiians and the Sea exhibit. This activity is complimentary with aquarium admission and appropriate for all ages. Schedule subject to change.

Event: “Turtle Tracks: Two Years at a Time”
Now Playing at the Undersea Cave

Description: The debut of the film entitled, “Turtle Tracks: Two Years at a Time” continues at the Undersea Cave at Maui Ocean Center. The documentary features the life of the Hawaiian green sea turtles while housed at Maui Ocean Center from the beginning, as they arrive as young hatchlings, until the time they are introduced, for the first time, to their ocean home. Footage and never before seen photos from behind-the-scenes, attaching satellite tracking transmitters and from a boat release will be shown. Viewers will discover how Maui Ocean Center’s curatorial team cares for these animals on a daily basis and why it is important for their overall well-being. Follow along as the turtles help to educate the public during their first two-years at Maui Ocean Center and see how their lifelong journey in the open ocean begins. Viewing of the film is available and the Undersea Cave and is included with Aquarium admission.
